Mountaineering Expeditions in the Indian Himalayas

Overview

Mount Menthosa (6440 Meters) is the 2nd highest peak in the Lahaul-Spiti province of the state Himachal Pradesh in Northern India. The summit was first achieved in 1970 by a British Service Team led by Capt S. Bembrose. R.E.M.E Capt. R. Cape and Royal Marine Lt. S. Rae were the only two members of the team to reach the summit. The route includes steep valleys, gorges alongside the Mayar River, mountains, rocks, cliffs, ice fields, and walls.

DAY 1: ARRIVE DELHI
Welcome to India once you arrive in Delhi, you will meet our representative who will assist you to in the airport and transfer to hotel for check in and overnight stay.
 
DAY 2: DELHI (IMF VISIT) - MANALI (2050 M) 570 KM 12 HRS
Morning after breakfast proceed to Indian mountaineering foundation (IMF) for briefing with the director of IMF, and liaison officer and complete some paperwork. You can also visit the museum and library of IMF to get more information about Indian Himalayas and your expedition, afternoon free for leisure. Afternoon we will take a Volvo coach to Manali. Overnight journey.

DAY 3: MANALI
Upon arrival check in the hotel. Complete the paperwork and legal formalities in Manali, you can also visit the Hadimba devi temple (this temple was erected in 1553 and is dedicated to goddess Hadimba. The temple has some intricate wooden carvings which depicts mythological characters and motifs of animals & cosmic dancer) then old Manali and mall road (where you can go for shopping & eating), overnight stay in hotel at Manali.

DAY 04: MANALI – UDAIPUR - URGOS
Morning after breakfast drive to Urgos via Atal tunnel and Udaipur. Once you cross the Atal tunnel you will enter the forbidden land of Lahaul, where you encounter a different culture and landscape continue drive to Udaipur. Lunch at Udaipur. After Udaipur drive to Urgos village it is exhilarating as you witness changing landscapes in a small distance. Upon reaching Urgos we move towards prebooked homestay for an overnight stay.

DAY 05: URGOS – BASE CAMP (4200 M)
Morning after breakfast get ready for your first day trek, you will hand over your bags, climbing equipment to our porters,  the 7 kms hike from Urgos to Menthosa base camp is a terrific hike: not too difficult, yet steep enough to warm you up for the climb. Magnificent views of the surrounding peaks gets prettier as you go higher. (hot lunch will be provided en-route) the last 1000 meters elevation will be a tough climb. Base camp will be set before your reach, overnight in Shikhar trekking tents.

DAY 06- 17: BASE CAMP (BC) – SUMMIT - BASE CAMP (BC)
Form day 06 to day 17 establish higher camps & attempt peak, Shikhar climbing sherpa will help you to open the route and make necessary arrangements for you after the base camp, you are also connected with the base camp and our backup team by satellite phone and walkie talkie, we update you about the weather condition on time to time accordingly the summit team will take the decision, from the summit you will get the Panasonic view of miyar valley.

DAY 18: BASE CAMP - URGOS – UDAIPUR
Morning after breakfast, again handover your bags to the porters, leave the base camp and trek down to reach Urgos, hot lunch will provide en-route. From Urgos our transport team will wait for us, after sifting all the luggage in the cabs we drive to Udaipur. Overnight in the hotel.

DAY 19: UDAIPUR – MANALI
Morning after breakfast drive back to Manali. Upon arrival check in the hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 20: MANALI – DELHI
Morning after breakfast transfer and drive back to Delhi by Volvo. Upon arrival check in the hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 21: DEPART DELHI
Morning after breakfast check out and Visit IMF for de-briefing of the expedition Later proceeds to Delhi airport to onward destination. It was lovely to have you in India, See you soon.

  • Booking of Mt. Menthosa Climbing permit, Expedition fee to Indian Mountaineering Foundation 
  • Accommodation on twin/double room (sharing) in hotels/homestay at Delhi, Manali, Udaipur and Urgos as per program.
  • All transportation by tourist vehicle as per the program.
  • Liaison officer fees, Accommodation, Transportation and Meals (Delhi to Delhi). 
  • All meals as per above mentioned program including high altitude food/meal
  • Accommodation in tent during approach march and at Base Camp i.e. one tent for 2 person.
  • Services of climbing guide and high altitude sherpas for route opening, rope fixing and establishing high camps during the expedition.
  • Services of Shikhar Travels Sardar (base camp Manger), Cook and Kitchen helper till and at base camp
  • Use of Satellite phone for emergency use (subject to availability)
  • All necessary kitchen and camping equipment till base camp
  • We will provide all meals to guests, all staff and Liaison officer during the expedition.
  • Transportation of members luggage maximum 40 Kgs per person road head to base Camp and base camp to road head by porters/pony.
  • All necessary common climbing equipment i.e, Fix rope, Climbing rope, High altitude tent, Carabiner, Snow bar, Ice piton, High altitude Gas Cartage etc.
  • First aid kit with Oxygen Cylinder 
  • All currently applicable taxes including GST of 5%

Price Doesn't Include

  • Personal clothing and gears required for climbing (Personal Climbing equipment)
  • Any kind of insurance.
  • Personal expenses such as table drinks, rooms services items, laundry, telephone calls at hotels or tips etc.
  • Personal high altitude porter
  • Any additional expenses caused by or liability for a disturbance in the trip program due to our circumstances, weather conditions, sickness, natural disasters, riots etc.
  • Any other service or item which is not mentioned as “Price Includes”

Please ensure your insurance covers you for the heights you are likely to attain and for helicopter rescue as well. When you have chosen and booked your insurance, please provide SHIKHAR TRAVELS with your Insurers name, their 24 hour emergency telephone number and your Policy number with them. Remember, your insurance is not worth the paper it's written on if we don't know the details and you need their assistance.

General Conditions:

  •  The prices are on Per Person basis, Nett & Non Commissionable
  •  Upon confirmation of the booking we would require 50% of the total invoice and the balance amount can be paid 60 days prior to the date of arrival
  •  Class of travel on trains may change based on availability at the time of booking
  •  All flight/train timings are based on current schedule and are strictly subject to change
  •  All prices are subject to any revision of tax and tariff structure.

Cancellation policy:

Cancellation Charges: Notice of cancellation must be made in writing in the name of Shikhar Travels (India) Pvt. Ltd.

For cancellation made 4 weeks prior to the scheduled departure, there will be a cancellation fee of 50% of the invoice. For cancellation made within 4 weeks of scheduled departure, there will be cancellation charge of 100% of the invoice.

In certain cases the cancellation policy (including conditions applicable on the advance deposit made/required for holding the reservation) may differ & would be applicable as per the cancellation policy of that hotel / Service provider. This will be charged over & in addition to the cancellation policy.

Unused Services & Refund

No refund will be made for any unused services or other arrangements due to any changes in schedule made by passenger while traveling. However, in certain cases, the refund will be considered as per the policy of the carrier/ hotel/ tour company / or other suppliers used for providing services.

Refund request must be made within 2 weeks of the completion of the trip.

If there is any additional expenses due to bad weather or any other reason beyond the control of the tour operator on account of hotel stay, transportation, and meals etc. extra bill will be raised. Neither Shikhar Travels (I) Pvt. Ltd. nor the participating suppliers/hotels will be responsible for the additional expenses.

Responsibility, Liability, Extra Cost, Prices and Brochure Accuracy - Changes and Errors

All the packages are sold under the business management of Shikhar Travels (I) Pvt. Ltd. and they are in no way to be considered as the principal or operator of the subject services. The right is reserved to cancel or alter any package as conditions require. Neither Shikhar Travels (I) Pvt. Ltd. nor the participating suppliers/hotels will be responsible for the additional expenses due to loss, delay or damage caused by accident, illness, bad weather, strikes / riots, road block etc.

Governing Law

This conditions and each term shall be governed by and constructed in accordance with the laws of India without reference to conflict of laws principles and disputes arising in relation here to shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Delhi.
