Ladakh Tour itinerary
Day 01: Delhi - Leh
Early morning, we will transfer you to domestic airport to board flight to Leh (Leh is the the largest town of Ladakh with an area of 45110 Sq Km. The district is bounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the West, China in the north and eastern part, and Lahul Spiti of Himachal Pradesh in South East. The beauty of Leh is that it introduces you best to Ladakh’s ways while you head out for short walks or drive around. Leh stands accessible, surrounded by the majesty of the Himalayan enclave. The experience can best be described as a peek into the delights that make up this ancient trade route) Shikhar Travels’ Representative would receive you at Leh Airport and take you to your hotel. Relax by the courtyard upon arrival. While you enjoy your cup of tea, the room keys will be handed over to you. In the afternoon take a leisurely walk to Leh Palace,Tsemo Gompa and Shanti Stupa. NAMGYAL TSEMO GOMPA: Known as the 'Red Gompa' was build in 1430 AD and contains an impressive three story high Maitriya Buddha statue and a one story statue of Avalokitesvara and Manjushri. LEH PALACE : This nine storey palace was built in the 17th century by Singay Namgyal and is currently under reconstruction. The view from the palace makes this place worth a visit. SHANTI STUPA: This stupa is located on a hilltop and was built by Japanese in order to represent World Peace and was inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1985. Day 02: Leh
After breakfast, we will take you to a guided tour of the Monasteries of the Indus Valley. Your excursion would start with **Witness the Morning Prayer ceremony at Shey Monastery. SHEY (15 KMS SOUTH OF LEH): On the East bank of the Indus river lies the beautiful Shey Monastery. Up to the 16th century, it was the royal palace. There is a 17.5 m high blue haired Maitreya Buddha of copper, brass gilded and studded with precious gemstones. HEMIS (45 KMS. SOUTH OF LEH): Built on a green hillside surrounded by spectacular mountains, Hemis is the biggest and the most important monastery in Ladakh. It was built in the 17th century by Chapgon Gyalshas and ever since has enjoyed the patronage of the royal family. Hemis is the headquarter of the Drukpa order and all the monasteries throughout Ladakh are administered by it. This wealthiest monastery contains gold statues and stupas decorated with precious stones and many priceless old Thankas. THIKSEY (25 KMS SOUTH OF LEH): Thiksey,one of the most imposing monasteries belonging to the 15th century, stands on a crag overlooking the flood plain on the east bank of the Indus. The monastery belongs to Elugpa order (Yellow sect) and is a 12- Storey Monastery painted deep red, ochre and white with typical tapering walls. There is a 15m high Buddha figure at the entrance of the new temple. The layout of the monastery complex resembles the Potala palace in Lhasa. Return to your hotel by the later part of the afternoon. Evening you can walk down to the nearest market and spend some time at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Leh - Khardungla - Leh
After breakfast, we will drive you to Khardungla Pass,which is at 18380ft/5600m, and it is the world highest motorable road. The view from Khardungla is amazing as you can see all the way over the Indus Valley while the seemingly endless peaks of Zanskar range spread out before you and th gigantic Saser Massif Looms overhead in the North. Later drive back to leh and after lunch one is free to explore the area for own special point of interest. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 04: Leh - Delhi - Departure
After an early breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport to board the flight to Delhi. Further board the flight to onward destination.
