Overview
As the winter starts to spread its white wings on the Northern part of India, a door to enjoying some spellbinding trek to the snow-clad mountains of the Garhwal region also opens. One such winter trek snuggled up in the mountains of Uttarakhand is – Deoriatal Chandrashila trek. Chandrashila, often popularly called ‘Moon Rock’, is a smaller but sharper peak located above the sacred temple of Tungnath. The noble, white-topped peak stands at a staggering height of 3,690 m above sea level and is also greatly revered by the local people of Uttarakhand as a place where Lord Rama meditated after defeating Ravana in a fair fight. And Deoriatal comes as a surreal surprise to all the mountain goers during this journey because the lake calmly sits up on the way to Chandrashila peak.
One can climb up this mountain within a 5-day itinerary starting from Rishikesh, and the climb has been nominated as an easy level trekking journey by the Mountaineering Institute of India. The trekking journey is enjoyed by every kind of mountain lover during winters and has never been attributed as a summit journey reserved only for experienced trekkers. But still, the journey sometimes sees extreme weather conditions so, you need to be mentally and physically fit before embarking on this journey.
Upon registering for this summit with Shikhar Travels, you commence on a journey filled with learning the warmth of the thick forest of Uttarakhand and some stunning Himalayan Peaks. The surreal view of some splendid peaks like Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba Peak comes as a spellbinding moment from the top of Chandrashila Peak.
