Experience Nepal with Everest Base Camp Trek
Who would not love to experience the thrill of going near to the highest peak in the world? Just like any adventure enthusiast, I also dreamt of visiting the Everest base camp if not the peak. To fulfill my dream, I contacted Shikhar Travels who informed me about a great package that would give me a chance to see the natural beauty of Nepal along with an enthralling experience of trekking to the Everest base camp. Without thinking twice, I booked a spot on Everest base camp trek and feel that was the best decision of my life. The unique experience and aesthetic beauty of the mountains left me mesmerized right from the first day.
The Journey
The whole package was cleverly crafted to give travelers and adventure enthusiasts like me first-hand experience and thrill of trekking at treacherous paths. The sixteen-day tour took me to a number of places including Kathmandu, Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep and finally to the Everest base camp.
Shikhar took us to the south base camp of Mt. Everest that stood at an altitude of 5364 meters. The trail from Lukla to base camp was to be covered on foot and this was an amazing experience that made me respect the citizens of this small country as well as the mountaineers who even try to scale heights of Mount Everest.
What I loved- The completeness of the package
Instead of being just a mountaineering or trekking package, the Everest base camp trek was a complete package that not only gave me a chance to see astonishing views but also the tourist locations near Kathmandu, too.
On the day of arrival at Kathmandu, everyone was enlightened with a pre-trek briefing session that gave me an insight on what to do and what to avoid on this trip. I also got a chance to visit a number of local tourist attractions including Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Shyambhunath Temple and Patan. I would like to appreciate the kind of hospitality and experience I got while staying in Kathmandu.
After leaving for Lukla by flight I was guided by an experienced guide for the trek to Phakding and further to Namche Bazaar. At every step, I was enthralled of the natural beauty and till the time I was about to reach Namche Bazar, I was able to see Mt. Everest behind Lhotse-Nuptse ridge while on the way.
At no point, I felt I am being rushed by our guide. In fact, he gave us time to rest and get used to low oxygen levels after we reached Namche Bazar. He informed how we need to get adjusted to this high altitude in order to further trek. I was amazed at his knowledge about hills, the human body and the trekking paths.
Mesmerizing View of the Mountains: A Memory worth Cherishing
Once we reached Namache Bazar, we were free to roam around and absorb the scenic beauty while getting accustomed to the atmosphere. I got a chance to view a number of snow-laden peaks including Teng Kangpoche and Kwangde, both higher than 6000 meters.
One of the best views I got was an amazing panorama of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas including Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Tawache, Nuptse, Lhotse while at the Tyangboche monastery. The whole aura and magnificence of the place left everyone in my group in awe of natural beauty.
There were some other moments during the final leg of our trek to Everest base camp that gave us great views of high mountains. Apart from the main trek to Mt. Everest, there were opportunities to hike to small peaks at Dingboche where the mountain views were amazing.
I also got a chance to trek on the side of Khumbu Glacier that gave us mesmerizing views of high peaks such as Pumori, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc. The view made me feel how small we humans are in the whole of nature and how magnanimous Mother Nature could be.
No doubt the showstopper was the Everest base camp where we reached on the eleventh day of the tour. The path from Gorakshep to Everest base camp was challenging and we slowly ascended while absorbing the natural scenic views on our way. Once we reached the base camp, we felt victorious and wanted to absorb the memory for a lifetime.
I would say if you are stuck in your life and want to broaden your perspective, you should definitely go on a trek to Everest base camp. Not only will it help you to appreciate nature, but will also help in breaking the monotony of your life.
