Your adventure begins as you arrive in Leh, a city nestled at an elevation exceeding 3500 meters above sea level. During the winter months when most mountain passes leading to Leh are closed, you'll be flown into Leh Airport, renowned as the world's highest airport.
Upon landing, you'll be greeted by the crisp, dry mountain air. However, your attention will immediately be drawn to the towering, snow-capped peaks that surround you, a breathtaking sight that will stay etched in your memory. After completing your arrival procedures and collecting your luggage, take a taxi to your pre-arranged hotel, where you'll enjoy an overnight stay.
Day 2: Acclimatization Stroll in Leh
Rise early in the morning and embark on a crucial acclimatization process for the high altitude. Head out on a refreshing walk to Shanti Stupa, a revered Buddhist stupa. From here, you'll be treated to a stunning sunrise view and a panoramic vista of Leh.
Stay well-hydrated as you acclimate to the altitude on your first day in Leh.
Day 03: Medical Evaluation at SNM Hospital
Due to the demanding nature of the Chadar trek, participants are required to obtain a medical certification before embarking on this adventure. The Sonam Narbu Hospital conducts medical check-ups and issues clearance certificates only to those who are deemed physically fit and properly acclimated for the trek.
Day 4: Shingra Koma and Somo Paldar
Begin your day with tea and breakfast, then set out on a journey to Shingra Koma. This ride is not for the faint of heart, with bumpy roads and hairpin bends along the way. The sight of towering mountains in the surroundings will leave you in awe. At a certain point, you'll need to disembark from the vehicle and commence your trek towards the Somo Paldar campsite.
This marks the beginning of your Chadar trek expedition.
Day 5: Trek to Dib Cave/Tibb
Today, you'll trek to Dib Cave/Tibb, taking in the breathtaking beauty of the region, including its ravines and gorges. The steep cliffs in this area may obscure direct sunlight, providing a unique ambiance. Upon reaching Dib, you'll encounter a spacious cave where you'll spend the night and savor some butter tea. Don't miss the opportunity to try it. Enjoy an overnight stay at the campsite.
Day 6: Dib Cave/Tibb to Camp at Naerak
Today, you'll traverse the most scenic section of the region and have the chance to witness the largest frozen waterfall and colorful prayer flags. A bridge near the waterfall site is used during the summer to access Zanskar from Leh. Afterward, proceed to the village of Naerak, where you can interact with the locals and gain insight into their way of life. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at the village camp.
On this day, commence your return journey and make your way back to Tibb. The return route may pose its own challenges as the frozen river can undergo significant changes in response to temperature fluctuations. Along the way, admire the region's natural beauty, capture memorable pictures, and meet locals dressed in traditional woolen Gonchas (robes). Once you reach Dib Cave, relax and spend the night at the campsite.
Day 8: Tibb to Shingra Koma and return to Leh
In the morning, bid farewell to Tibb and proceed towards Shingra Koma, passing by Gyalpo. Today's trail will offer you a chance to observe high mountains and possibly spot traces of wildlife such as snow leopards, ibex, and foxes. If luck is on your side, you might even catch a glimpse of a leopard, but even if you don't, rest assured they are watching you.
In the evening, drive back to Leh and enjoy an overnight stay at your hotel.
Today, your mesmerizing journey to one of India's most scenic destinations ends. We are certain that this experience will leave you with an unmatched sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. In the morning, check out from the guesthouse and head to Leh Airport for your departure.
